Iris Apfel - The queen of 'kookie'

There has been a bit of talk recently about the very fashionable Iris Apfel, (born in 1921) who is a style icon at age 90. Proving that beauty and style exists at every age. So it was only fitting that Iris and MAC make-up came together to create a collection of lipsticks, beauty powder and eye-shadows, showing you can have fun with dressing-up, no matter how old you are.

We love her outrageous fashion combinations and quirky accessories. She lives life by her own rules and doesn’t play into trends, quoted as saying, “I don’t like trends anyway – I like tradition.” “You can’t go to the future if you haven’t come from the past.”

Iris has become an icon and muse to the fashion world. The queen of kook has been featured in Pepper magazine, Vogue and The New York Times and has had her image blown up life-size in the window of Barney’s department store.

Iris dares to be bit different. She shows that style isn’t defined by your age, a designer bag, or the latest ‘It’ piece. She has fun with what she wears and makes getting dressed in the morning seem like a special occasion... and why shouldn't it be. And most importantly, Iris proves what we have always thought... one bangle is never enough.

Resolutions........

Another year has started and we welcome 2012 with a fresh outlook, new beginnings and positive goals. Time to take care of ourselves and indulge in the things that make us happy. Enjoy the simple pleasures life has to offer... Sometimes they can be more rewarding than a grand plan.

But where to start? We decided to look at the Four Elements for inspiration. Here are some ideas to kick start your resolution list.

Earth

Spend some time outside in the garden. Plant some flower seeds and watch their growth over the year.

Fire

Light a candle and indulge in some more 'you time' with a magazine and chocolate.

Wind

Go for a walk and feel the wind on your skin. Explore the neighbourhood you live in. You’ll be surprised at the beauty you can find that you never knew existed.

Water

Take a road trip to the beach. Feel the sand and water on your toes or simply sit and watch the waves.
